When I danced, I always hated being photographed in odd places; I wonder how these dancers felt. Horses are great, but with ballet? I can't help but think of the dirt on the toe shoes...On the other hand, I saw Maria Caligari dance - she was wonderful.
I wonder the same- Suzanne Farrell actually wrote about how, during her childhood, a horse stepped on her foot, which left it a lot less flexible than the other, which was a point of self consciousness throughout her career- but here she is, smiling right next to a horse, in her Diamonds costume (I guess that things worked out ok, despite the foot injury, after all).
I saw NYCB at Saratoga a long time ago, I'm pretty sure they were doing Midsummer Night's Dream. So many mosquitos were flying about, I don't know how they danced at all.
